Spay Panama-Chiriqui
164th STERILIZATION CLINIC IN VOLCAN

This web page will be a lot longer than my previous ones because later in this page I will thank the MANY people who helped me resume the Spay Panama-Chiriqui clinics....but first about the clinic on February 28th.:

We joyfully resumed our Spay Panama-Chiriqui sterilization clinics on February 28, 2026. During our previous 17 years of service to the community and the animals, we sterilized 6,614 dogs and cats. During those years we most often had only one veterinarian, Dr. Andres Tello. And for this clinic #164, only Dr. Tello operated. But in the future, we will have two veterinarians!

As we have already reported, we are not in competition with the other clinic in Volcan, and they are not associated with Spay Panama-Chiriqui. There are enough animals in our area to warrant two sterilization clinics per month, and we wish the other group well.

At this 164th clinic, we offered a special price of $5 per cat and $15 per dog.  Dr. Tello sterilized 32 animals: 7 dogs (all female), 15 female cats, and 10 male cats. This brings our Spay Panama-Chiriqui total to  6,646 animals sterilized. With many more to come!

Our next clinic will be on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Whatsapp 6361-3234 for appointments. Prices at that clinic will be $10 per cat and $20 per dog. After that, regular prices of $15 per cat and $25 per dog will resume.

Thank you to Dr. Andres Tello and all our wonderful volunteers! Jadiel Quintero and Kelly Pitti were the only two experienced Panamanian volunteers, but everyone did a great job and the new volunteers learned quickly. In addition to Jadiel and Kelly there were:

        Ana Mora
Ivan Ivarro (he is a doctor at ULAPS)
        Alcides Quintero
Don Binder (in the past Don volunteered with us for many years.)
        Oldenis Jiminez
        Leidy Mendoza
        Jae Espinosa (11 years old)
        Annie Espinosa (13 years old)
(Both Jae and Annie are Leidy's children.)

I love having young volunteers! In the past, Alex Rios started when he was 10 years old continued for many years. I'm sure that Jae and Annie will continue as well.

Our goal, as always, is to have a small core group of well-trained volunteers who attend each clinic. That way, each person knows his or her job and does it well. We do not have volunteers coming and going at will, plus having too many is not productive.

A big hug and thanks to those who donated food and drinks for the doctor and volunteers:

        *Super Centro California - drinks
*Mercadito Corredor - fruits (the best place in Volcan for fruits and vegetables)
*Fonda Green Highland - Olinka, the Chef, donated 16 delicious individual Thai meals!

       Financial report for this clinic:

$230 - paid by animal owners
$25 - donation by Lucille Levesque of Boquete
                $255 -  Total Income

Costs:  (Per Fundación Spay Panama, actual costs are $35 per dog and $25 per cat)

                $245 - dogs
                $ 625 - cats
                $870  - Total Costs

Costs minus income = $615 deficit

Only the veterinarians receive any pay. Neither I nor anyone else connected with the clinics receives any pay. So thank you in advance for any financial help.  In Panama you may donate to Dorothy Atwater via Yappy at 6361-3234. (US donors please contact me for information how to donate; I can give you a tax-deductible receipt for your US tax return.)

See the photo album for this clinic HERE: ( Sorry, not many pictures this time. Many more for future clinics.)

Now my gratitude to the people that made this wonderful clinic possible:

*
Patricia Chan/Fundación Spay Panama donated many hundreds of dollars worth of equipment and    medications. Patricia has been my friend and mentor for many years, and I am grateful for her support!
*Armando Cervantes, the former owner of the old vacant house. Before I signed anything or gave him any money, Armando gave me the keys so we could begin the transformation immediately:
*My lawyer, Mirtha Ortega, for her professional work to facilitate the transaction. 6883-2065
*My two permanent employees, Alcides Quintero and Rodrigo Morales, plus Jose Pitti and Jadiel Quintero (Alcides' 16 year-old son). Rodrigo stayed at my house to take care of my dogs while the other three worked tirelessly for three months to transform the old house into a perfect clinic facility.
*Manolo Rodriguez, Torneria Volcan, manufactured and donated two "positioners" of stainless steel.
*Electricista Arquimedes (Archie - 6466-1515). He replaced the entire old wiring with new, added many electrical outlets, and installed the ceiling lights. Archie gave me a much reduced price for his labor because he supports our mission.

*And last but not least, Don Binder (a long term volunteer) plasticized and prepared the boletos and other pages.

Thank you to everyone! Please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone!

My gratitude to everyone who participated in our clinics today, and to those who had their pets sterilized. Always remember that TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
